LA MARQUE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Internet Access Policy
 

1. The Stand up computers in the library may be used by anyone. However if card holders are waiting for a computer, those without cards may be asked to cut their session short. Sit down computer users need a current La Marque Public Library card or photo-ID card which must be marked with a stamp indicating the user has signed the Internet Use Contract for Unfiltered Access.

2. Internet access computers are normally available, subject to periodic maintenance, during the regular operating hours of the library. Access will end fifteen (10) minutes prior to the library’s closing time in order to facilitate any necessary printing.

3. Use of Internet access computers is on a first come, first served basis. Those using the sit-down computers must sign in at the nearest desk and will have one hour (or one-half hour, beginning at 3 PM daily) time limit. Patrons may use the computers up to one additional one-half hour if there are no other patrons waiting to use the computers. Internet resources (computer stations) may be allocated at the discretion of library staff.

4. The Library does not permit interactive games, chat rooms, instant messaging; FIRST VIOLATION will result in termination of Internet access for the day. SECOND VIOLATION will result in termination of Internet access for a week. THREE VIOLATION results in termination if Internet access for a month.

5. The library charges patrons $0.10 per black and white print; $0.50 per color print.

6. Patrons may not always be able to go to the places on the Internet they may wish to visit. There are many reasons, among them:

• The site may be blocked due to content.
• The library’s Internet connection may be periodically or temporarily inoperable due to technical difficulties.

La Marque Public Library is not responsible for lack of access due to the reasons listed above and any others beyond our control.

7. MISUSE OF THE INTERNET ACCESS COMPUTERS WILL RESULT IN PERMANENT LOSS OF YOUR COMPUTER PRIVILEGES. Patrons are expected to exercise common sense principles in the use or the Internet, respecting the rights, privacy and sensitivities of others. It is not acceptable to use the Internet access to:
 

1. Degrade or disrupt the equipment or software.
2. Vandalize the data of other users.
3. Gain unauthorized access to other data banks or resources.
4. Invade the privacy of others.
5. Violate Federal, State, or local laws or regulation.
6. Install private software.
8. User bears the liability of copyright infringement when downloading copyrighted material from the Internet.
9. While users are free to access whatever Internet sites they wish, the library must also respect the rights of other users not to be inadvertently exposed to material and images they may find personally unsuitable. Viewing of certain materials in the public library may be considered improper in time, place or manner. The library reserves the right to end an Internet session at any time if the site is, or the viewers are, creating a disturbance.
10. A child under the age of 8 must be accompanied by the child’s parent at the computer at all times. All children under the age of 15 should use the computers in the children’s area.
11. Users age 16 and above must use computers in the adult areas.
