BORROWER’S CARDS

Any resident, employee, or property owner in Texas may obtain a free library card from libraries in the Galveston County Library System. The Library participates in statewide programs.
The La Marque Public Library accepts Houston Public Library System Power cards.

TYPES OF BORROWERS CARDS
A. CHILD’S CARD: Issued to any child with a parent’s signature.
B. YOUNG ADULT CARD: Issued to any child with a parent’s signature.
C. ADULT CARD: Issued to those aged 18 or over, or others under the age of 18 who live away from their parent’s address, are out of school and working full time, and can provide verification of employment.

VERIFICATION
1. GCLS library cards are issued only after the applicant has completed an application and provided verification within the last 6 months of name and address.
2. Staff verifies the address against that shown on the patron’s identification (driver’s license, cancelled mail, voter’s registration card, check, bill, receipt, school or employee ID, property tax receipt, lease, housing contract, or an immediate family member’s library card of the same address). Each application requires the applicant’s driver’s license number, Texas ID number, or a suitable substitute.

SIGNATURES
Children’s and Young Adult applications must be signed by the parent or legal guardian.
In situations where adults are in the care of an institution, or children or young adults are in the care of an individual or an agency or other than their parents, the library needs a signed letter from the institution or agency, stating that the agency or individual will be responsible for any materials checked out on the individual’s card.

LOST BORROWERS’ CARDS
Reported loss of a borrower’s card relieves the patron of responsibility for any materials subsequently checked out on it. There is a charge to replace a lost card. No memo is necessary if patron gets a new card at the same time card is reported lost.
